Sir,

In reply to your letter of the 12th instant, I am directed to inform you that His Excellency the Governor regrets to hear that delay has occurred in the issue of permits, has issued instructions which it is hoped will avoid such delay in the future.

2.

The Acting Director of Public Works reports that he is not aware of any favourable places in the Colony where boulders are numerous and is, therefore, of opinion that recourse must soon be had to quarrying in order to obtain stone for ballast. This question is engaging the attention of the Government.
